Paul Mescal and Phoebe Bridgers fans sent into a tizzy after report they’re engaged

Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal have sent their fans into a tizzy over reports that the pair are now engaged.

The news was initially confirmed by the Guardian, which published an interview with Mescal on Sunday asserting that he and the singer “are now engaged”.

However, the outlet has since updated the profile to say the pair “are reported to be engaged”.

While neither Bridgers nor Mescal have confirmed the reports, fans have taken to social media in their droves to express about their potential engagement, with many recanting how Bridgers, 28, met the Aftersun actor, 26, via Twitter during lockdown.

In May 2020, the Punisher hitmaker tweeted about the BBC mini-series and wrote: “Finished Normal People and now I’m sad and horny oh wait.”

The post kicked off a Twitter exchange between them when Mescal replied, “I’m officially dead” and Bridgers sweetly commented, “nooo don’t die your so talented aha”.

Mescal then interviewed Bridgers for a lockdown livestream, and went on to star in her video for Savior Complex.

They officially confirmed their relationship in November 2021 when they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2021 LACMA Art + Film Gala.

In response to the engagement report, one fan tweeted: “Phoebe Bridgers tweeted about being horny after watching Normal People and then flew across the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of pandemic quarantine times to hook up with Paul Mescal and now they’re getting married, this is ROMANCE.”

“No because Phoebe Bridgers watched Normal People, publicly thirsted over Paul Mescal and is now engaged to him and for that she’s my hero,” another posted

A third added: “Two sexiest people in the planet off the market. I’m in mourning.”

The Standard has contacted Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal’s representatives for comment.

In April, reports emerged that Bridgers had introduced Mescal as her fiancé while partying at Coachella.

Responding to the speculation in June, she told The Guardian with a grin: “F*** the f***ing tabloids to hell, that’s what I’ll say about that!”
