Paul Merson rumoured for I'm A Celebrity line-up as bosses set sights on big stars

Paul Merson is rumoured to join the I'm A Celebrity line-up as bosses are said to be negotiating the biggest stars ever.

The football pundit and former Arsenal midfielder, 52, is rumoured to be one of the A-list celebrities heading Down Under as show execs fight to make this year's line-up the best one yet.

It's claimed that ITV are hoping to pull together some huge showbiz names, including the likes of Jessie J, to participate in challenges on the popular reality show.

And Paul, who last year revealed he's once again in the grip of his gambling addiction, is amongst the list of stars.

"The jungle is the jewel in ITV's crown and they're desperate to land top talent to keep viewers hooked," a source told The Sun.

"Paul is really keen to relaunch his TV career and thinks this is the best way to do it after he's seen what it has done for his mate Harry Redknapp, but he needs it to be worth his while and is negotiating for a top price."

The previous odds for him to appear on the hit show are at 1-3, and it's looking likely that Paul could star in the programme.

Mirror Online has contacted Paul's rep for comment.

The former England player has blown £7million on gambling, booze and drugs as a result of his crippling addiction.

"I’m struggling with life at the moment. Gambling," he revealed in a candid interview on Harry's Heroes on ITV, adding: "I've lost control completely again."

It seems I'm A Celebrity could be a great career move for the star as he hopes to get more work on the telly, following in the footsteps of Harry Redknapp.

ITV declined to comment when approached by Mirror Online.
