Paul Merson names the team Spurs are starting to remind him of - and supporters will be fuming

Tottenham Hotspur have gone from challenging for the Premier League title to struggling to make the top four and one former Arsenal legend has given them the ultimate criticism.

Spurs were battling for the top trophy in the league before a recent downturn in form which has now seen them sit 18 points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Instead, Mauricio Pochettino’s men only have silverware available for them in the Champions League, with a quarter-final clash against Manchester City on the horizon next week.

But as a dramatic 2-1 defeat at Liverpool last weekend showed, Spurs are not too far off competing with the best in the league and almost picked up all three points at Anfield.

Paul Merson was speaking on Soccer Saturday and likened this current Spurs side to the recent Arsenal team under Arsene Wenger which flattered to deceive in the Premier League.

"You know what Tottenham are starting to remind me of? They are starting to remind me of Arsenal of the last five or six years," Merson told Soccer Saturday.

"They played in a football match at Liverpool last weekend where the only team who looked like winning was them but they lost it. There is only one team in the country that usually does that and it’s Arsenal."
