Paul Merson makes Mohamed Salah 'great' claim but highlights Liverpool man's biggest flaw

Mohamed Salah has made the headlines this week after he netted his 100th Premier League goal in Liverpool's victory over Leeds United last weekend.

The Egyptian has had a fantastic start to the new season with four goals in all competitions so far.

Salah 's quality is undisputed among supporters, but question marks remain in the wider football world over where he stands among some of the Premier League's greatest stars.

And pundit Paul Merson was asked whether the 29-year-old should be considered a 'great'.

As Salah is one of only 30 players to reach the century, his response is no surprise.

“Oh 100 per cent [he is a Premier League great]," Merson said on Sky Sports' Gillette Soccer Saturday.

“He is a proper, proper player. I’m with you, I think he doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

“I think sometimes he’s a bit wasteful don’t get me wrong, I think he could probably get double the goals.

“The lad is different class. I couldn’t talk highly enough of the bloke. He runs without the ball, he’s lively, he’s double confident, which I love.

“I love players, when it isn’t going to well for them, they still want the ball.

"My only Achilles heel with Liverpool is last week, they could’ve beat Leeds by seven and put a real statement out.

“They’re so, so wasteful. But he [Salah] is 100 per cent up there with the best.”

The forward's long-term future at Liverpool remains unclear as he's entered the final two years of his current deal.

Jurgen Klopp was asked to provide an update on negotiations on Friday and he told reporters "'There is nothing to say, not for me I'm not involved."
