Paul Merson has backed Newcastle United's move for Joe Willock.
The Magpies have launched a deadline-day move to sign the Arsenal youngster on loan until the end of the season.
Steve Bruce is keen to add to his midfield in January and the Gunners are willing to loan out Willock for more first-team football to aid his development.
The 21-year-old has played 17 times for Arsenal this year, starting just once, and his chances of breaking into Mikel Arteta's team in the short-term look slim following Martin Odegaard's arrival from Real Madrid.
It will be the midfielder's first taste of football away from his boyhood club and will inject some creativity into the Magpies midfield.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said the loan would benefit all parties involved.
The Arsenal legend said: "If he went to Newcastle, it's good for him and I think it's great for Newcastle as well."
Merson also backed Newcastle's interest in Leicester City's Hamza Choudhury, arguing that both players would help to improve the Magpies.
Whilst the pundit said he has questions over Newcastle's long-term ambitions, in the short-term he feels the club would benefit from both loan signings.
He said: "I do like Choudhury, I think he's a very good player.
"I think both of them in the team would be a better team for Newcastle, yeah definitely.
"I'm a big fan of both of them - but if you're a Newcastle fan, it's just a stop-gap - it's a stop-gap for the next three or four months, and that's it, really.
"If you thought there was an option in that they would go there and Newcastle could buy them, then wow, as a Newcastle fan, I would get excited, because they are two very good players.
"But it's a stop-gap for three or four months. So, again, where are Newcastle going?
"But I'm a big fan of both of them. I like both of them."
