Paul Merson has a warning for Arsenal about Newcastle amid the race to finish in the top four

Former Arsenal forward Paul Merson believes Newcastle United are dangerous opponents for the Gunners this evening (Monday) as his old side continues to push for a top four finish.

The Gunners welcome the Magpies to the Emirates Stadium tonight, knowing that a win would move them into third place, above north London rivals Tottenham in the race to finish in the top four in the Premier League.

But ahead of the game, Merson has delivered a warning for his old side about the threat posed by Rafa Benitez's men.

"Newcastle are a dangerous side," he said in his weekly predictions feature for the Sky Sports website.

"They've been really good recently, are hard to beat and have a couple of match-winners in their team.

Merson has predicted a 3-1 win for the Gunners, but he is not so optimistic about Arsenal's chances of finishing in the top four this season, with the Sky pundit making a big claim about the upcoming fixtures for the Gunners.

"If Liverpool had Arsenal's remaining fixtures they would win the league, but you just know that Arsenal won't win all of these games. And that's why they are not a shoo-in for the top four."
