Paul Merson disagrees with Jamie Carragher and three other pundits as Man United v Liverpool predicted

Liverpool are hoping for their first win of the Premier League season when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight.

Erik ten Hag has endured an awful start to life at Old Trafford since arriving from Ajax in the summer after losing 2-1 at home to Brighton before suffering a shocking 4-0 defeat at Brentford last weekend. Jurgen Klopp 's side are winless, too, having taken just two points from their opening two games after drawing 2-2 at Fulham and then drawing once again at home to Crystal Palace last Monday night.

So how this evening's game go? Here is what the pundits think.

Jamie O'Hara - talkSPORT

“I’m going to go 7-0 with this,” O’Hara told talkSPORT . “Man United are in disarray and Liverpool are going to be rubbing their hands together.

“They haven’t scored a goal in their last two games against Liverpool, losing 4-0 and 5-0, and they’re a worse team now. So I’m saying this is going to be an absolute drumming, on Monday night they’re going to be at it. 7-0 to Liverpool.”

Score prediction: Manchester United 0-7 Liverpool

Chris Sutton - BBC Sport

Writing in his latest BBC Sport column, pundit Sutton said: "Whatever happens, you just know Jurgen Klopp's side will outwork United at the very least. United will run around a little more than they did against Brentford, but they need to find some heart. Unless something happens this week that triggers a change in attitude in their squad, I don't see it happening.

"The home crowd will be willing them to take the game to Liverpool and if they do that then they are in big trouble because that's when Klopp's side are at their best. They won 5-0 at Old Trafford last season, and this is going to be a similar story this time, although I am going to give United a goal just to lift their spirits a little."

Score prediction: Manchester United 1-5 Liverpool

Paul Merson - Sportskeeda

Sharing his prediction for Sportskeeda, Merson said "After Manchester United were humiliated by Brentford, I thought about their game against Liverpool and wondered how many they'd concede. Once I watched Liverpool against Palace, though, I immediately gave Manchester United a chance and I really mean that.

"This is a massive opportunity for Erik ten Hag and his players to set things right. It's the biggest game of the Premier League season and no one expects them to win, but in my opinion, the result isn't as much of a foregone conclusion as it's made out to be. Manchester United need to work their socks off and have each other's backs to have a chance of causing an upset. It feels a bit weird to even say... how has life changed for Manchester United that we're describing a potential home draw against Liverpool as an upset?"

Score prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool

Mark Lawrenson - Paddy Power

In his new role with bookmakers Paddy Power, Lawrenson said: "Erik ten Hag's going to have to start to build from the back, because they're so easy to play and score against that he needs to have a look and he might have to change his system. If they can sort the defence they'll have something to work on, but they're just in a mess.

"Liverpool looked a bit sluggish again on Monday night and Darwin Nunez took the bait and didn't help their cause getting sent off against Palace. I don't see a 5-0 like last season."

Score prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool

Jamie Carragher - Sky Sports

Speaking on the Sky Sports Podcast, Carragher said: “I think Liverpool will just win, I think it will be tough. I think Liverpool will win 2-1, I can see United getting a goal.

"The atmosphere there, the high line, they have pace in behind. I don’t think Liverpool have been defending well this season in the trhee games they’ve had. There have been a lot of opportunities for the opposition. I can see United scoring, but I think Liverpool have enough to get a couple of goals.”

Score prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool
