Paul Merson watched Tottenham thump Crystal Palace 4-0 on Saturday.
And he declared afterwards that it was the Spurs of old after an indifferent start to the Premier League campaign.
After beating Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the season, Spurs were completely outplayed by Manchester City, but came away with a 2-2 draw, thanks to a late VAR intervention.
Then came the horror - a 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United, before Spurs drew 2-2 at the Emirates in the North London Derby.
It has looked a tough opening on paper, and with the squad now settled following the closure of the European transfer windows, Spurs got back into the groove with victory over Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Merson was watching the game for Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday show and was impressed by what he saw.
He said: "Tottenham started off really well, straight from kick-off. They dominated the game, they were absolutely brilliant, every player, they were all team goals, the passing.
"First half they were absolutely outstanding - the Tottenham we know from the last couple of years."
He was not alone in that assessment of their performance, with opposition boss Roy Hodgson praising Mauricio Pochettino's men.
He said afterwards: "The quality of their passing and movement was excellent and of course they scored good goals during that period. It wasn't purely us not being anywhere near the standard we set and it certainly was the case of Tottenham coming out and playing extremely well and asking a lot of questions of our defence."
