Paul Merson blown away by Liverpool 'artist' Diogo Jota who fits club 'like a glove'

Liverpool and Diogo Jota are the perfect match with the Portuguese forward fitting them 'like a glove' according to Paul Merson.

The forward made the move from Wolves in the summer and has already hit the ground running.

His prolific start to the campaign has forced Jurgen Klopp to alter his system so that he can accommodate his four front men.

At Manchester City the German played with all four from the start for the first time.

And Merson believes the 23-year-old's addition is going to make Liverpool a daunting prospect for an opponent.

He told the Daily Star: "How many teams are going to want to face them when Jota is added to that front three of Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane?

"Assuming Salah comes back quickly from his positive Covid test, those four together could be frightening over the next few months.

"With Jota it’s quite simple. He gives you goals. There’s an art in making runs without the ball and he’s so good at it.

"He fits like a glove at Liverpool. They all make runs like they KNOW they are going to get the ball. They run at full pelt and it opens up space."

The Reds have by no means hit top gear despite starting the defence of their title well.

Klopp's side have shipped plenty of goals as they battle a growing injury list.

The unique circumstances surrounding the season has already caused plenty of upsets, but Merson still sees Liverpool as the team to beat.

He added: "I still think they are the team to beat, even with all these injuries. If you finish above Liverpool and don’t win the league this season, you’re bang out of luck.

"With the firepower they’ve got, if they play all four of their forwards, they are going to score two goals a game."
