Paul Merson and Chris Sutton agree on shocking Tottenham vs Liverpool prediction

Tottenham will be hoping to continue their winning run of form when they host Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Antonio Conte's men are off the back of two huge last minute victories, beating both AFC Bournemouth and Marseille in injury time.

Spurs currently sit third and will be hoping to bridge a gap on the sides behind them while closing in on the top two - who are starting to break away. In Liverpool, they face a side that have had a tough start to their campaign, sitting ninth with just four wins from their opening 12 games.

"They are having a bit of difficulty this season," Conte said on the opposition. "I am surprised about this and that some people are trying to criticise Liverpool after what they have done in recent years. They have one of the best coaches in the world and fantastic players. At the same time, we have a lot of problems but we want to play an important game in front of our fans."

Plenty have tried to predict the game ahead of time, so here's a look at some that have been made.

Paul Merson - Sportskeeda

Former Arsenal man Paul Merson has had his say on the clash, believing that injuries might be a huge factor for the home side. "With Son, Kulusevski, and Richarlison injured, Harry Kane will be isolated up front. I've watched Tottenham a lot this season, and I don't think Kane can do it on his own. Liverpool like their Premier League away games against Tottenham, and they will back themselves to win this game."

Predicted score: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool

Chris Sutton - BBC Sport

Ex-Blackburn and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton claims the game could be an intense one, agreeing with Merson in terms of the scoreline. He says: "Both managers, Antonio Conte and Jurgen Klopp, have been moaning a lot about how exhausted their players are so, based on that, this will be a dull game between two tired teams.

"I don't see it turning out that way myself, though. Both teams are so erratic that they could end the game completely differently to the way they start it, so it will be exciting to watch. I am going for Liverpool to edge it, although I have to admit that is a massive guess."

Predicted score: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool

Lewis Jones - Sky Sports

Betting expert Lewis Jones has similarly backed the Reds, claiming: "I can see Spurs struggling to create many openings from open play, especially without the speed and directness of Son who scored in both fixtures against Liverpool last season."

Predicted score: Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool
