Paul McStay reveals Kieran Tierney's Celtic emergence was down to his father as Arsenal star tipped to shine

Kieran Tierney was spotted by Paul McStay's father, the Celtic legend has revealed.

The left-back is set to star at this summer's Euros with Scotland having turned in a solid second season at Arsenal.

Ronny Deila handed Tierney his debut towards the end of his Parkhead reign but it was under Brendan Rodgers the Muirhouse kid starred.

But McStay revealed it was his own dad that unearthed the talent of the boy that would go on to earn Celtic a club record £25m in August 2019.

He's positive Tierney will be one of the best performers for Scotland this summer and speaking to Go Radio's Football Show, he said: "He's doing well down there, isn't he? I think he gave everything to Celtic when he was there.

"A wee back story about that, I don't know if you were aware - my dad spotted him.

"He was the scout that took him into Celtic at a young age. So, we've always kept a close eye on Kieran and what he was up to and how he was progressing.

"I'm just delighted to see him doing so well down in England.

"I definitely think he'll be a star in the Euros. He's an outstanding talent and playing down south, competing against better teams week in, week out has certainly helped him."
