Paul McStay given special Celtic flag day honour as club confirm details

Paul McStay will unfurl the league flag at Celtic Park this Sunday, it has been confirmed. 

The club legend will take to the pitch pre-match as the new season begins. 

Celtic ended the 2024/25 campaign with a 1-1 draw against St Mirren, although Brendan Rodgers will be hoping for a different result against the Paisley outfit this time around. 

Last year, Lisbon Lion Jim Craig unfurled the league flag on the opening weekend. The campaign prior, the job was given to James Forrest

Now, it will be left to McStay, who made just under 700 appearances in green and white, to do the honours. 

Brendan Rodgers said [celticfc.com]: "Paul was a great player. He always gave you hope watching Celtic.

"You always felt that, in those tough times when Celtic maybe suffered a bit, he could produce that moment of magic.

"He was a brilliant player, a really humble guy and I have been fortunate enough to have met him.

“That was a real privilege and a real honour for me.  He will get an incredible reception, and it will be amazing to see him again."

Kick-off this Sunday is at 4.30pm as Celtic look to start the season as they mean to go on.
