Paul McGrath's Stephen Kenny comments divide opinion

Republic of Ireland fans are divided on Paul McGrath's recents comments about Stephen Kenny.

The fomer defender stated that he does not believe Kenny is the man to lead Ireland forward and said change is needed.

He told RTE 2fm's Game On: "When I watched the Portugal and Serbia games, the football that the lads played, in midfield and playing out from the back, they really are good players, but I have to say, it’s my belief that Stephen might not be the person to take us on to that level where we are starting to win things again.

"I like Stephen, I love what he done with Dundalk, but there is something about Stephen in his way with the team at the moment, I don’t think he is going to change just because we are losing or drawing most games.

"I think we do need to change. If we are losing games, we need to go to something else to try and win."

Some fans agreed with McGrath's opinion, while others strongly disagreed, but one thing that many fans did agree on was that it could be difficult to find someone to replace Kenny.

One person said: "McGrath is right. Football is a results business not this ''future'' guff. Having said that who would take the job?"

But someone else commented: "He is doing the best the can with players he has to pick from. The Irish team and management need support now more than when they are winning."

Another post read: "He is doing the best he can with what he has.....there won't be a queue for the job."

Someone else tweeted: "Disappointed in Paul McGrath here. Not fair to Stephen Kenny in my opinion. Let him get on with the job and stop bringing out ex-footballers, who never managed to blast him!"

One other person simply wrote in response to McGrath's comments: "Dead right."
