Paul McGinley weighs in on Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau feud ahead of US Open

Paul McGinley predicts that US Open chiefs will have extra security on site this week to deal with heckling targeted at Bryson DeChambeau.

McGinley is a fan of both DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka but is unhappy with the feud that has developed between the two - and that recently exploded over social media.

Video footage of Koepka's reaction as DeChambeau passed him by at the PGA Championship last month went viral.

At The Memorial Tournament, Koepka offered free beer to spectators who may have been escorted off the premises of Muirfield Village Golf Club for heckling DeChambeau, who is the reigning US Open champion, with shouts of 'Hey Brooksy' during the first two rounds.

"I would say the USGA would have extra security out there to try and stamp that out," said McGinley.

"But I think it's an obvious thing, there's no doubt that he got quite a lot of it at Memorial and I thought Brooks crossed the line when he went on social media and kind of encouraged them, 'if you do get kicked out, don't worry, there's a case of beer I'll put up for prizes if anybody is escorted off'.

"That would cross the line, I didn't like to see that at all. That's wrong, and we already have enough of the Baba Booeys and Mashed Potatoes and all that stuff going on.

"Golf is a game that demands a high level of concentration. It's easy to be put off, it's easy to be distracted, so it's important that we have a good code of behaviour from the crowds, because golf is that kind of a game.

"It's like tennis as well, there's got to be quiet when the guys are playing.

"Somebody shouting or screaming at an inappropriate time could really affect performance, whereas someone shouting and screaming in the middle of a soccer match, nobody is going to hear it, it's going to be drowned out.

"Look, it's good to have different personalities but I don't like when they're using social media to drive a different perspective, get on with playing golf, that's my view. It's OK to be different."
