NEW YORK _ Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort appears to have reached a bail agreement, possibly lifting the house arrest he's been under for the past month, according to court papers filed Thursday.
Lawyers for Manafort say they've reached a deal with prosecutors from special counsel Robert Mueller's team, which is looking into Russian meddling in the presidential election, according to court papers.
The documents filed reference an "agreed-upon bail package with the Office of Special Counsel" that includes four properties owned by the longtime Republican strategist.
Kathleen Manafort, Manafort's wife, agreed to guarantee the entire amount of the bond, roughly $11.6 million. His daughter Andrea agreed to serve as surety regarding the $3.70 million New York property she partly owns.
The proposal, which needs to be approved by a federal judge, also includes the redacted names of two people who Manafort's lawyers say can back up the bail should the value of the real estate properties fall below $10 million.
Manafort and his longtime aide, Rick Gates, were arraigned on money laundering and other charges last month.
Their alleged crimes, including false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts, center around their work on behalf of the Ukrainian government before they worked for President Donald Trump's campaign.
Bail arrangements have dragged on for weeks as prosecutors sought to make sure that Manafort and Gates were not using any funds considered proceeds from the alleged illegal scheme they ran. Both men have pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors sought $10 million to secure Manafort's appearance at trial and $5 million for Gates.
The pair were placed under house arrest and forced to wear GPS monitoring devices while attorneys worked out arrangements.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson has suggested that the pair pose a flight risk, but said arrangements could be made if they reached a bail deal.
Manafort's lawyers have proposed that he be allowed to travel in Virginia, New York, Florida and Washington and pledged as collateral his properties in the Hamptons and on Baxter Street in lower Manhattan as well as a home in Palm Beach, Fla.
An additional $4.5 million in life insurance policies was also floated as collateral.
A previous proposal offered Manafort's Trump Tower apartment as collateral.
It is unclear if Gates' lawyers are nearing a deal with prosecutors as well.
