Paul Ince thrilled by Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell's 'battle' with Andy Carroll

Paul Ince relished the battle between Reading forward Andy Carroll and Millwall defenders Charlie Cresswell and Jake Cooper this weekend. Cresswell has played every minute over the course of Millwall's last nine games and registered his seventh clean sheet of the season as the Lions defeated Reading 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

Zian Flemming was brought down in the box by Reading stopper Joe Lumley, and Andreas Voglsammer confidently converted his spot-kick to score the game's decisive goal in the 11th minute.

Leeds United loanee Cresswell has formed a strong defensive partnership with Cooper, and Reading boss Ince was fascinated by the battle which ensued on the pitch in Berkshire.

“I’m looking at the battle between AC (Andy Carroll) and Jake Cooper and (Charlie) Cresswell, you’re thinking ‘just let them go, just let them play – it’s a battle’. It’s great, it’s what football is about," Ince told reporters after game.

Millwall restored their place among the top six although seventh-place Norwich City could leapfrog them once again if they beat Sunderland on Sunday.

Fellow Leeds loanee Jamie Shackleton missed Millwall's 3-2 defeat against Norwich earlier this month after picking up a knock. He was named on the bench for the Lions' trip to Reading, although he wasn't called upon by Gary Rowett.
