Paul Ince leaps to defence of Man Utd star after fans call for him to be sold

Paul Ince has leaped to the defence of Manchester United star Ashley Young after Red Devils fans called for him to be sold.

Young had a game to forget as Manchester United lost 1-0 to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.

The United defender gave the ball away a staggering 30 times, according to Opta, as the Red Devils failed to muster a single shot on target.

Red Devils supporters slammed Young's performance on social media, calling on the Old Trafford club to sell the former Aston Villa winger when the transfer window opens.

But Ince has come to the defence of the Englishman, saying he's a leader who always gives 100 per cent for his team.

"But the fact is, you know what you're getting with him.

"He's a senior player, a great pro that has been at United for years, and it's not fair to make him a scapegoat now. He's the James Milner of Man United. But the fact is, as you get older it gets more difficult.

Paul Ince reveals the three moments that convinced him Liverpool will win title

"He's no spring chicken, so you're going to have appearances where you're not at your best, and that's what we're seeing with him now.

"But he's still a leader, he talks and gives 100 per cent. He was no worse than anyone else on Wednesday, but fans like to have someone to blame."
