Paul Ince criticises Marcus Rashford 'mindset' as Man Utd substitute

Paul Ince has questioned whether Marcus Rashford warmed up properly before his doomed substitute appearance against Wolves .

Manchester United striker Rashford came on in the 63rd minute as the Red Devils chased a goal in their FA Cup third round replay at Old Trafford.

But Rashford, who has been carrying a back injury, was forced off 16 minutes later while holding his back following a clash with Matt Doherty.

The England front man is now a doubt for United's clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday, and Ince reckons the whole situation could have been avoided.

"He's more or less started every game," Ince said on BT Sport. "I don't think he's used to being a substitute.

"I don't think he knows the process of being a substitute… how vigorously you warm up, do the right things.

"Do you think you're going to get on the pitch? So it's kind of a mindset where you think 'well hopefully I'm not going to get on'.

"All of a sudden he's thrust into the action because they need a goal.

"He is a talisman, he is the main man, and 16 minutes down he's getting dragged off again with a bad back - hopefully he'll be OK for the Liverpool game."

Solskjaer admitted his decision to bring Rashford on for Daniel James as a substitute backfired - as the Red Devils secured a fourth round tie with either Tranmere or Watford .

"That backfired but you have got to go for them once in a while," Solskjaer told BT Sport.

"It seems like he has got a knock there and he couldn't run.

"We will test it in the next few days and we will see. Hopefully he will be OK for Sunday but I don't know.

"He has struggled with a couple of knocks with his back lately.

"He got another one and it didn't help."
