Paul Hollywood’s estranged wife has revealed she is recovering after a skin cancer scare and urges others to get vital checks.
Alexandra, 54, made a video post to tell how she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma (BCC) – a type of non-melanoma skin cancer – a few weeks ago.
The cookery writer, 54, who married Great British Bake Off star Paul in 1998 and split from him in 2017, admitted she was “freaked out” when her GP gave her the shock news.
But after treatment, she insists it is “no big deal” – and said she had shared her experience to raise awareness.
Alexandra said: “I was in two minds about whether or not to do this video.
“But then I want to tell you why I’ve got this plaster on the side of my nose and these marks on my cheek. A couple of weeks ago, I went to go and see my GP and he diagnosed BCC, that is benign skin cancer to you and me.
“Yes, it did freak me out a little bit at first, but he sent me to go and see a specialist who dealt with it straight away, very quickly, very painlessly.
“Everything’s going to be fine and back to normal.”
She blamed her condition on years spent “mucking around in boats as a scuba instructor” while wearing “little or no sunscreen”.
