Paul Hollywood 'feared for his life' after man approached him in Liverpool

Paul Hollywood said he feared for his life, during a confrontation with a Bake Off fan in Liverpool.

Speaking on the Jonathan Ross show Paul revealed all about the incident.

Jonathan asked if Paul ever got criticism from viewers on decisions he had made on the show following recent sofa guest, Shirley Ballas’ admission that she had received death threats online.

Paul from the Wirral laughed and said “I’ve had something similar so I understand.”

He spoke about a large man of 6 foot 6 approaching him in Liverpool.

Paul said: "I was looking at him and I thought, ‘I’m dead’ so I just said ‘In your world mate, all I do is judge fairy cakes, if that makes me hard…"

He said: "You’re right you mate, do you want a pint?’"

Paul added: “I get a lot of people offering me a lot of advice on who should have stayed and who should have gone . There are two senses that the people who watch don’t lock on to.

"We’ve got taste and smell and they are critical when you’re baking... On camera you look at the colours and the pretty pictures and you go ‘That must taste good’ when it tastes like rubber or too salty or too sweet.”

Paul then spoke about whether he might ever appear on a show where he would be judged, like Strictly Come Dancing and said: “Maybe one year.”

And admitted he actually did some training for the dancing show some years ago.

He said: “I did do a dance thing a couple of years ago when I was filming American Bake Off so they were aware that I may have to go to the States. I had to learn the ‘Beat It’ theme.”

Jonathan asked: “The Michael Jackson? You learnt the dance to ‘Beat It’?”

Paul replied: “I did then, yeah. Obviously I don’t know it now. I deleted it from my mind. So I did that. I was training for about three weeks and then I had to pull out. So I was going to do it.”
