Former Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom is to set to become Sheffield United caretaker manager after Chris Wilder stands on the verge of departing by mutual consent.
He is currently a coach with Premier League strugglers and is set to step into the breach after the Blades boss opted to call it a day.
Sheffield United sit bottom of the table with no hope of survival and there have been rumours of discontent between Wilder and the club's owners.
The 53-year-old has been in charge for five years as he took his boyhood club from League One to the Premier League.
The Blades face Leicester City at the King Power on Sunday with Heckingbottom to take charge against Brendan Rodgers' side.
Heckingbottom has impressed with the U23s and appears set to be handed the opportunity on a temporary basis with the club looking to plan ahead.
The 43-year-old started fast at Easter Road in 2019 but was relieved of his duties after a nightmare run during the start of his first full season in charge.
