Paul Heckingbottom highlights Leeds United weakness as Mateusz Klich training clue spotted

Here is your Leeds United digest for Saturday, April 3.

Heckingbottom highlights Leeds weakness

Paul Heckingbottom has identified a weakness in Leeds United that Sheffield United can exploit in this afternoon’s Premier League clash.

Leeds host the Blades in a 3pm kick-off at Elland Road today hoping to build on the 2-1 win over Fulham before the international break.

Sheffield United are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League on 14 points, but caretaker boss Heckingbottom believes they can take advantage of Leeds’ intense man-to-mark approach.

"They play that way and we know how difficult it can be in terms of them creating opportunities, but with that they give opportunities away as well if you are willing to capitalise on that,” the former Leeds manager told Yorkshire Live.

"We are looking forward to that style of football and the challenge that it will bring.

"We believe it will be a tough game in terms of matching them and dealing with their attacking threat, but we believe that we can create problems and chances at the other end as well.

"It's going to be one of those games from start to finish that is like that. You have to stand up and enjoy that fact, enjoy the man-to-man nature of the game and look to come out on top and that's every player.”

Leeds drop Klich hint

Mateusz Klich could be involved in Leeds United’s match against Sheffield United today after being spotted training with the squad yesterday.

Klich missed Poland’s three World Cup qualifiers, which concluded with a defeat to England at Wembley on Wednesday evening, after testing positive for Covid-19.

Marcelo Bielsa then admitted in Thursday’s press conference that he was not sure if the 30-year-old midfielder would be available to face the Blades.

"The protocol has not been finalised, so we don't know what the result can be, we don't know yet," he said. "The evaluations haven't been completed so we don't know yet."

However, Klich is in the thick of a Leeds training video uploaded yesterday, which may well indicate Leeds have received good news on that front.

He is with the main group undergoing drills, which suggests he has passed the Covid protocols and is available for selection.

Harrison’s personal target

Jack Harrison has set himself a target for the remainder of the Premier League season with Leeds United.

The on-loan Manchester City winger has scored six goals and provided five assists in 28 Premier League matches so far, but is far from done this season.

“It’s been good. There have been a lot of ups and downs and I’ve definitely learnt a lot playing in the Premier League,” Harrison told LUTV.

“I said to myself at the start of the year that I’d like to get 10 goals so I am still going to be pushing myself a lot over these last eight or nine games to try and achieve that."

Leeds have been without several players during international break, but Harrison says training has not been affected.

“It’s not changed too much. If anything, with the added break, it just gives us a chance to be a bit more intense and aggressive in training,” he said.

“We’ve had younger players from the squad come in and fill in spots that we’re missing so we’ve continued working as normal.”
