Paul Heckingbottom faces Hibs ban sweat as SFA issue notice of complaint for Celtic incident

Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom has been hit with a SFA notice of complaint.

The compliance officer, Clare Whyte, has decided to issue the misconduct charge after the Englishman was sent off by referee Kevin Clancy during the 1-1 weekend Premiership draw with Celtic .

Heckingbottom was angry that with the build-up that led to Ryan Christie’s equaliser.

He was seen blasting the fourth official, Nick Walsh, and was then dismissed after he kicked a water bottle and it appeared to come off the back of the leg of the assistant Alan Mulvanny.

The angry Hibs boss felt that Clancy caused confusion as some of his players didn’t know whether it was a drop ball or a free kick but Celtic took the latter and controversially levelled.

He said: “Listen, referees have bad games, make bad decisions, and you know I don’t come up here and moan about that.

“Literally phase of play, good press, we win the ball, break then five seconds later it is called back for something the fourth official has seen.

“Then that is not transmitted to the players.

“Some of them think it is a drop ball and they’re getting the ball back or something.

“Others understand it is a free kick so it was a shambles. A farce, that bit of play.

“I didn’t know that the water bottle had happened, I think it hit the linesman, so I shouldn’t have done that.”

Heckingbottom has been charged with breaching disciplinary rule 203 – that no member of the team staff shall commit misconduct during a match.

He also let rip and claimed Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham should also have got his marching orders for hitting out at Josh Vela.

A Hampden hearing has been set for Thursday, 10 October, where the former Leeds United and Barnsley manager will get the chance to defend himself.

Heckingbottom could face a ban unless he manages to convince an independent disciplinary panel otherwise.
