Paul Heckingbottom explains why he's convinced Hibs' fortunes will turn

Paul Heckingbottom knows it's his head on the chopping block unless Hibs can turn around their dismal form - but remains unmoved in his belief that they will.

The Easter Road side blew a two goal lead at home to Ross County on Saturday and have not won in the Premiership since August.

Goals from Daryl Horgan and Scott Allan put the Hibees in control but a late County salvo yielded goals from Brian Graham and Joe Chalmers to earn a point.

Heckingbottom is convinced his side have fashioned too many good positions for their fortunes not to turn, but concedes it's he who will pay the price if it doesn't.

He told BBC Scotland: "Always, that's what happens (getting sacked). As a manager, you go into the industry knowing that.

"Players are different, they have contracts that are totally different.

"Managers, to do the job properly, when things are going well you can't get carried away. When things are going badly, you have to give it perspective and that's the only way to approach it.

"Otherwise, you're setting yourself up for a hiding. It sharpens you, focuses you.

"We know, we can see, we can't hide away from the fact.

"We could all probably look at our last however many performances and say: 'What are we doing well? What needs to improve?'

"We've got to turn them into wins.

"We're working to get into too many good positions for it not to happen, that's my belief.

"But, as I said to the players in there, we're not going to sit and hope it happens, we're going to have to work harder to make it happen."

Heckingbottom can't help but feel the pressure with his team languishing in second bottom.

Social media is hardly a barometer for measuring reasoned opinion, but the sheer level of calls for the manager's head can't be ignored.

It's an anger that has also manifested inside the stadium but Heckingbottom insists it will spur him and his team on to simply work harder.

"You feel the pressure, of course you do," he added.

"The pressure to get results, it focuses you, it makes you more driven.

"Again, speaking to the players in there, I can't ask them and I can't hide away from it. There's not a chance you can hide away from it.

"You have to face it up, work even harder - push, push, push.

"Just like I'd ask the players on the pitch, that's what we'll be doing, my players and the staff. You have to give more.

"I have to give more, the players have to give more. There's one way out of it - wins.
