From his witty, gritty hits with the Housemartins, to the chart engulfing sounds of the Beautiful South, Paul Heaton is responsible for some of the biggest - and yet most low-key - British singles of the last few decades.
It’s his partnership with Jacqui Abbott that’s revived this year, however. Rejoining for the first time in over a decade for their new album What Have We Become?, he describes renewing his working relationship with the singer to “going into your garage and discovering a beautiful, covered up Rolls Royce that hadn’t been started in years”.
Taken from the forthcoming special edition of this album, out on 24 November, Real Hope gets its own stand alone moment. Recorded with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Paul and Jacqui become honorary members of the band for its video, set under some drab northern skies. Watch the video below and let us know what you think.
