Paul Gascoigne's plan to 'use fishing' to befriend I'm A Celeb Italy campmates

Paul Gascoigne has revealed that he intends to use his fishing skills and good humour to befriend his fellow I'm A Celeb Italy campmates.

The 53-year-old footballing icon has just arrived in Honduras where he will star in the upcoming series of Italy's version of the jungle show.

Speaking to The Sun, the Italia '90 legend revealed that he was hoping to befriend his celebrity co-stars by making them laugh.

His remarks came shortly after Paul revealed that he had interviewed for the UK version of I'm A Celeb in the past but failed the psych test.

When quizzed about what skills he is bringing to the jungle, Paul revealed that he could offer the camp his fishing talents.

“I’m good at fishing,” he told the publication.

Paul is a keen fisher and has done the sport for many years. It was also his fondness for fishing that saw Paul get involved with the hunt for one of the UK's most wanted men in 2010, Raoul Moat.

He also added: “My best quality is that I can make people laugh and I’m always laughing.”

Paul was self-isolating in Milan before flying out to the central American location earlier this week.

Having arrived in Honduras, he is now also self-isolating again before the show commences on March 15, before filming for 10 weeks.

The former England midfielder will be starring in the show alongside 14 celebrity campmates.

Paul is reported to have taken intensive Italian classes in the run up to starring on the show.

He has also revealed hopes that being in the I'm A Celebrity camp will help him overcome his fear of snakes as well as help him quit smoking.

Prior to jetting out to Honduras, Paul had actually revealed that he'd been in the interview process for a spot on the UK version of ITV's I'm A Celebrity.

However, he explained that he was left "p***** off" by the psych test.

He said to The Sun at the time: "I did interviews for I’m A Celebrity in the UK but they pre-judged me.

"They wanted to sign me for the show, but when it came to speaking to the psychiatrist they really p***ed me off.

He added: "I wasn’t happy about that. And the questions she asked me were ridiculous."
