Paul Gascoigne to remain on Italian reality show Celebrity Island despite shoulder injury

Paul Gascoigne is set to continue to appear on Italian reality TV after an injury reportedly left him in hospital.

The ex-Newcastle and England star has indicated he wants to stay on L'Isola dei Famosi (Celebrity Island) - Italy's answer to I'm a Celebrity - despite painfully dislocating his shoulder in an earlier appearance, The Mirror reports.

He was seen wincing and holding his arm in pain during an assault course last week.

But appearing on the show via video link with his arm in a sling, he said: "I’m doing ok. The shoulder is so so but I hope to return."

Host Massimiliano Rosolino also suggested he was likely to be back, saying: "Paul is doing well, he's doing very well.

"He's wearing a brace on his shoulder and I have been to see him.

"I asked him if he wants to return and he nodded his head, so yes he wants to come back but we are not sure when."

After the injury there were rumours the former footballer would have to pull the plug on the competition.

The Gateshead -born star arrived on the set by plunging from a helicopter into the sea, before later revealing that his tattoos included the words 'mum and dad' spelt incorrectly in Chinese.

However his ink failed to win over one of his fellow castaways - who called his tattoos "ugly".

He revealed he was taking part in the show, filmed in Honduras, in memory of beloved nephew Jay Lennon Gascoigne, who died of an overdose aged 22 in 2016.

He told Italian magazine TV Sorrisi e Canzone: “If I win, I will give the prize money to a charity founded by my family in memory of my nephew.”
