Paul Gascoigne tells GMB hosts he nearly fell out of helicopter' on Italian I'm A Celebrity

Paul Gascoigne has revealed how he 'nearly fell out of helicopter' while appearing on the Italian version of I'm A Celebrity.

The 53-year-old footballing hero appeared as a guest on Wednesday's Good Morning Britain to talk to hosts Adil Ray and Susanna Reid about his stint on Isola Dei Famosi.

During his time on the show, former Newcastle and Rangers player Paul made headlines for sunbathing naked during filming and then having to withdraw after dislocating his shoulder.

And the Geordie legend revealed life on Honduran isle of Cayos Cochinos could have gone horribly wrong after he was left panicking he'd plunge out of a helicopter after getting medical attention for his injury.

Speaking about the terrifying moment via video call from Milan, Gazza explained: “I’m scared of flying anyway. I got in this four seater helicopter after the operation and I’m sitting there and I’m trying to look down at the sea. I’m looking for sharks and I’m thinking ‘If anything happens here, that’s it.’ I’d probably survive that as well (being bitten by a shark.)

"As he took off, he turned and the door flew open and obviously I panicked a bit. I made sure my seatbelt was on but my seatbelt wasn’t on! I said to the guy ‘shut the door quickly, please.’

"I had a few tears in my eyes and I was panicking. He said ‘It’s ok, it’s like driving a car’ and I said ‘well, I don’t drive a car with the door open.’ What an experience. I thought it was a holiday but it wasn’t.”

Paul's appearance on GMB caused some controversy over a remark presenter Adil made about his drinking, something he's publicly battled over the course of his career.

After Gazza greeted him and Susanna with some Italian phrases, Adil replied: "Gazza, how amazing. You were at Lazio three years, three seasons. I am guessing that is where you picked it up.

"But to hang on to it after all that time... and you've had a few tipples since then!"

Viewers at home were not impressed, with one tweeting: "Did Adil Ray just express surprise to Gazza that his cognitive function was still intact after years of alcoholism? How bloody rude."
