Paul Gascoigne set for first UK TV show in 20 years as his mental strength will be tested

Paul Gascoigne has signed up for first TV show in over 20 years.

The football legend, 55, who is famous for playing for Newcastle, has signed up for new Channel 4 show called Scared Of The Dark.

The former Newcastle striker is set to join the show which sees celebrities have their mental wellbeing tested by being denied daylight for a number of days on end at a time.

Paul is in for a huge challenge, and is ready to test himself in the brand-new game show.

“This will be a real endurance challenge for Gazza - but that’s the whole point of the show," a source told The Sun.

“Along with the other celebrities taking part he’ll have to survive in darkness for seven days in a specially constructed space.

“During that time he’ll also have to complete a series of thought- provoking tasks in order to keep his place in the contest.

“Despite the scale of the challenge, Gazza passed all his assessments with flying colours and filming on the programme will start shortly.”

It will mark the first time Paul has appeared on an entertainment show in the UK since he was on The Weakest Link in 2009.

Last year, Paul appeared on the Italian version of I’m A Celebrity where he took part in some naked sun-bathing.

While viewers appeared to be loving him, Gazza was forced to quit the show after just 38 days after dislocating his shoulder.

It comes after Paul's daughter, Bianca, appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in Italy, where her dad used to play football for Lazio.

And his son, Regan made waves on this year’s Dancing On Ice.

T he Mirror has reached out to Paul's representatives for comment on this story.
