Paul Gascoigne's life turned into film as England legend vows to tell 'my story'

A film documenting the life and times of Paul Gascoigne is set to be released next year.

The biopic, which has the working title '30 Years of Hurt', will document England legend Gazza's success on the pitch as well as his battles with his demons off it.

Gascoigne has struggled with his mental health and addictions during and after his playing career, that also included spells at Tottenham , Newcastle and Rangers.

"It's not easy being Gazza, but thanks to the love and support from the fans, I'm still kicking," he said.

"I want this film to tell them my story...of how it was, is and will be!"

The news comes after Gascoigne rolled back the years in a charity match last weekend, wearing his famous Tottenham No.8 shirt.

Earlier this month, fans raised their concerns over the former footballer after footage emerged on social media, appearing to show him asking for cocaine.

Gascoigne responded by insisting he was 'safe and well'.

The film will touch on the breakdown of his marriage to Sheryl Gascoigne, and the stories that have shaped his life from growing up in Gateshead to representing his country in the 1990 World Cup.

UK/Norwegian company 16:02 Films will produce the feature film with the casting process underway.

Director Tom Storvik added: "It is a great honour to be given the chance to tell Paul's story to the world, he has led a rich life full of highs and lows, sadness and happiness, hardships and successes – and it's been a great journey piecing together a story that will give the audience feelings of joy, sadness and compassion.

"It is a heavy cross to bear to ensure that the film will do Paul justice, and I am truly honoured that I have been given the chance and trust by Paul to do so.

"Growing up, he was one of my first footballing idols, and it's a surreal thought to think that after watching Euro ‘96 I'd be sat here 23 years later making a movie based on his life.”

It is hoped the film will be premiered ahead of next summer's European Championships.
