Paul Gascoigne reveals how he tried to wind up Nottingham Forest legend Roy Keane

Paul Gascoigne has revealed how he played mind games with Nottingham Forest legend Roy Keane during a clash between Spurs and the Reds.

The England legend faced off against Keane who had burst onto the scene at the City Ground where he went on to be a huge success which eventually landed him a switch to Manchester United.

And he revealed how had tried to wind up the tough-talking Irishman in a bid to put him off his stride as the pair went head to head.

Speaking on the trailer for his appearance on Anything Goes With James English, Gascoigne said: “I remember Roy Keane once, I just used to talk to him all the time.

“I remember going down the tunnel and I said: ‘Roy, you reckon you’re the new kid on the block? Welcome to your worst nightmare.’

“We won one-nil but he said afterwards in the papers: ‘Thank god that game is over with, I’ve never been talked to so much in my life.’

“I used to say: ‘I’m sleeping with your wife.'"

Gazza eventually left Spurs to join Lazio in 1992, but could have easily been a team-mate of Keane at United as Sir Alex Ferguson was a big admirer of the attacking midfielder.

But he opted to join Terry Venables' Tottenham side while Keane went on to become a legend at Old Trafford as he helped lead their dominance of English football which knocked Liverpool off their perch.

United paid Forest £3.75m for the notorious hardman who later went on to become assistant to Martin O'Neill in 2019, but he left the position after just five months.
