Paul Gascoigne raises the roof as Rangers legend enjoys cameo role at Spurs new £1b home

Paul Gascoigne received the loudest cheer as he featured in a dress-rehearsal for Spurs’ new £1billion home.

The iconic Rangers and England midfielder played a cameo role as he came on during Tottenham Legends’ 5-4 defeat to Inter Forever on Saturday.

Gazza was given a standing ovation as he entered the field on 55 minutes, the 51-year-old replacing Rafael Van der Vart.

And 15 minutes later after a classy few touches and runs, he received another when he left the pitch for Teemu Tainio.

Gazza looked fit and healthy as he continues to battle his demons, showing few signs of the alcohol abuse that has stalked his adult life.

Former Scotland keeper Neil Sullivan also played for Spurs as did Robbie Keane, who scored before celebrating in style.

Gascoigne enjoyed some of his most successful days in England at Spurs after joining from boyhood club Newcastle for a then-British record of £2.2million in 1988.

He played 112 times for the north London club and netted 33 times during a happy four years at White Hart Lane.

Gascoigne helped Spurs finish sixth in his first year before third 12 months later.

He then went on to sign for Rangers in 1995 for a then-club record £4.3m. He spent some of his happiest times of his career at Ibrox, winning back-to-back titles, a Scottish Cup and League Cup.
