Paul Gascoigne makes tearful plea to burglars who stole treasured items of his late father

Paul Gascoigne has made an emotional plea to the burglars who stole sentimental items which belonged to his late father.

Burglars struck the home of the former England legend as he attended the recording of Piers Morgan's Life Stories. Gascoigne was attending the recording of the show which featured his close friend Vinnie Jones on August 31.

When the 53-year-old returned to his Devon flat, £140,000 worth of items, some of which belonged to his late father, along with his first ever championship winning medal, stolen.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, speaking to Piers and Susanna Reid, the former Newcastle and Tottenham midfielder broke down as he pleaded with the burglars to return the items: "When I signed for Tottenham, I bought myself an expensive diamond watch, and I gave it to my dad, as a present", revealed Paul.

"He was over the moon and he gave me one back that he had for a long time.

"When he passed away, a lot of stuff went to the family to remind them of my dad, and there's a lot of stuff that I kept... I was really close to my dad."

Fighting back the tears and clearing his throat, Paul added: "I don't mind the other stuff, but the sentimental stuff, most of it, just... whoever has got it, if they want to put it in a bag, or whatever and leave them somewhere, you don't have to own up to it.

"Now that I'm talking about it, it's hitting me.

"Stupid things that don't mean anything to them, mean a lot to me."

Paul went on to reveal it was heartbreaking that the burglars also took his first championship winning medal.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to contact Dorset Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 08000 555 111.

Good Morning Britain returns at 6am every weekday morning.
