Paul Gascoigne injured after he 'backflipped' while riding a quad bike in Spain

Geordie football legend Paul Gascoigne has been involved in a quad bike crash while on holiday in Benidorm, it has been reported.

The former Newcastle United midfielder collided with a boulder and "backflipped" over the bike.

The 52-year-old was lucky to escape unscathed and is nursing a broken thumb and some scrapes.

He told Spanish newspaper Olive Press: "I went a bit crazy going through some trees on a quad bike, hit a boulder and backflipped over the quad.

"I was cut to bits and broke my thumb – it's well out. Look at it."

Gazza is back in action: Scores penalty in charity game

The ex-England and Tottenham player is now back to "feeling great" a week after the crash.

It comes as Gazza has been soaking up the Spanish sun on the trip organised by his manager Shane Whitfield.

He has been sharing a number of holidays snaps of his adventures, including swimming naked, riding a jet-ski and playing golf.

The recovering alcoholic has also revealed the holiday is booze-free and he is enjoying himself without it.

"I haven't come here to drink," he told the newspaper.

"I can drink in my own house if I want to, I don't have to come to Benidorm to do that."
