Former Rangers striker Marco Negri reflects on playing with Paul Gascoigne, insisting he was up there with Ajax legend Johan Cruyff.
The pair spent just one season together at Ibrox, with Gazza leaving for Middlesbrough toward the end of the 1997-98 campaign.
But even that brief encounter was enough to convince the Italian that his Rangers team-mate was up there with the very best.
Negri told Radio Musica Television: "After Cruyff I consider him to be the most talented midfielder of the modern era.
"He could do anything, he was such a special player. In Italy we didn't see him at the top, but in Scotland he gave his best.
"He won titles and matches on his own."
Negri was part of a large Italian contingent at Ibrox that included future World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso.
He recalled: "Rino built himself up through his great passion for football.
"He and (Marco) Materazzi won everything, they both showed commendable grit and tenacity despite not having the best technique.
"I remember at Perugia he (Gattuso) was one of the players who, despite being very young, you always had to have on your team if you wanted to end the session in one piece."
