Paul Gascoigne fights back tears on GMB as he opens up about sentimental items stolen in robbery

Paul Gascoigne fought back tears during in an appearance on Good Morning Britain today as he opened up about items stolen from his home in a recent robbery.

Burglars stole £140,000 of jewellery and sentimental items belonging to his late father while he sat in the audience for Piers Morgan's Life Stories.

England football hero Gazza appeared on the hit breakfast show today where he said "the sentimental stuff" is what he is most hurt about - particularly a watch his dad gave him.

The former professional football player and manager said he was "very close to his dad" and encouraged the thieves to "leave the items" on his doorstep so he could have them back.

Speaking to presenters Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan via video link, Paul said he came home to an open window and initially believed he'd left it open.

He added: "When I seen the suitcase open, I knew I'd been robbed."

Of a watch his dad gave him, Paul, 53, said: "I treated myself to an expensive diamond watch and I gave it to my dad as a present and he was over the moon."

Getting emotional, he added: "He gave me one back that he never wore... I was really close to my dad... I don't mind the other stuff but the sentimental stuff."

Paul's dad, John, died in 2018 after a battle with cancer.

Paul continued: "It's heartbreaking... now that I'm talking about it, it's really hit me."

Gazza praised the police and said they have "been brilliant to be fair" and pleaded with thieves to return the items which are so high in sentimental value.

He said: "Whoever has got them, if they want to leave them in a bag on the doorstep at two in the morning."

He admitted whenever he goes out, he comes home "worrying" he will see his door open and more items stolen.

Paul added: "That's hurt me a lot."

Piers Morgan encouraged anyone who knows anything about the theft to get in touch with police.
