Paul Dummett's 'cup final' claim and Newcastle's dressing room mentality after Watford draw

Paul Dummett's return from injury was a silver lining from Newcastle's draw with Watford on Saturday.

The Magpies may have let a golden opportunity to move out of the relegation zone slip through their fingers, but Dummett claims the dressing room knows how important the upcoming games are.

The Newcastle academy graduate was part of the Toon side that was relegated back in 2016, but also a key figure in their promotion form the Championship.

The Wales international has plenty of experience in a relegation battle and his return from injury will give Eddie Howe's side a welcome lift.

Speaking after the draw with the Hornets, Dummett said: "Everyone in the changing room knows how important this is. I've been in this situation before down at the bottom of the league and every game is like a cup final now.

"This game was a chance missed. We knows as a squad that draws aren't going to keep us in the league and every game that goes past is an opportunity missed.

"Today was a big opportunity missed with the chance that we had and we didn't take all three points.

"We have to evaluate and then train hard next week and hopefully we can take three against Leeds next week.

"I'm happy that I was on the pitch, but ultimately it's a team game and we didn't win, so that's the most disappointing thing."
