Paul Dummett feels for Newcastle United fans after Arsenal loss but eyes safety on Saturday vs Crystal Palace

Paul Dummett insists Newcastle United players are grateful for the support of their travelling fans following the 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Some supporters did not return home until the early hours of Tuesday morning after the game was scheduled for a Monday night by Sky Sports.

United are now looking to put the defeat firmly behind them and face a crunch encounter back at St James' Park against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking about the fans, Dummett said: "The support has been amazing all season, home and away.

"They travel away brilliantly.

"We always take our biggest allocation and I can't thank them for their support enough.

"It was a pity we couldn't get the three points for them travelling all that way on a Monday night.

"Hopefully we can get the next win in the Premier League as soon as possible to make us safe."

Newcastle are bidding to make it six wins in a row on home soil as they find themselves in their best form since the Sir Bobby Robson era.

Dummett, who came on at half-time against Everton as captain to inspire United to victory, told NUFC TV: "We have been in good form with the wins we've had.

"We know it will be a difficult game (against Palace) as they have some good players but we'll be ready.

"We had a rest but we will work hard in training.

"Hopefully we can get that sixth win and make ourselves safe in the Premier League .

"Then we will try to get other results and try to push on and finish strongly like we did last season."
