Paul Dummett confirms his desire to extend his stay at Newcastle United

Paul Dummett is hoping to secure a new deal at Newcastle United with his current contract coming to an end this summer.

The defender will make his 200th appearance for the club if picked for the game against Sheffield United, and is hoping there are many more to come.

Speaking to NUFC TV, Dummett was asked about his future, replying: "Hopefully I’ll make my 200th appearance on Wednesday but I’m hoping to add as many more as I can.

"I’ve been at the club for a long time now, so hopefully I can extend my stay and keep on creeping up with those appearances and get many more.”

Steve Bruce was asked about Dummett's future earlier this month but told reporters that no discussion would take place until safety the club's Premier League status was confirmed - with that now sorted, Dummett is expected to extend his stay on Tyneside.

Speaking about the possibility of racking up a double-century, Dummett added; "If you had told me as a young kid I’d be playing 200 games for Newcastle, I would have snapped your hand off.

"To hopefully do it on Wednesday night will be a great achievement for the family and me.

"It’s something I’ve worked really hard for and hopefully there will be many more to come in the future.”
