Paul Dummett addresses his Newcastle United future with contract extension yet to be activated

Paul Dummett admits it would be 'lovely' to finish his career at Newcastle United but insists his current focus is upon helping the Magpies secure a 'strong' finish to the season.

The Academy graduate has earned a first-team recall in recent weeks following Steve Bruce's decision to revert to a back three.

The defender has started the last seven matches, and popped up with a rare goal in Newcastle's impressive 4-2 victory at Leicester City in their last outing.

Dummett suffered an injury-ravaged 2019/20 campaign, and is aiming to secure a new deal at St James' Park for the 'peak years' of his career.

Newcastle hold an option to extend the 29-year-old's contract by a year, but have yet to make a decision on the former Wales international.

As it stands, Dummett could be ending his long association with the Magpies in June, and is one of several first-team stars whose futures are yet to be decided.

The defender took part in the club's Zoom Army feature ahead of the home defeat to Arsenal, and was asked if he aspired to be a one-club man.

Dummett answered: "Yeah, it certainly would be lovely to play my full career at Newcastle.

"But at the moment, I'm concentrating on keeping Newcastle in the Premier League and trying to finish the season as strongly as we can.

"Those conversations about keeping me in the club will happen at the right time, but at the moment I need to concentrate on playing games and finishing the season as strongly as we can."
