Paul Doolin is back in management after landing the Athlone Town job.
A decorated player in the League of Ireland, the 58-year-old managed UCD, Drogheda United and Cork City.
He won a league title with Drogheda in 2007 and later had six years as Republic of Ireland Under-19s boss.
Doolin’s appointment today bridges a five-year gap out of the game and Athlone said in a statement: “Paul needs little or no introduction to the vast majority of football fans.
“He has a proven track record in management in the League of Ireland and with Irish underage teams.
“He has managed UCD, Cork City and Drogheda United whom he guided to Premier Division sucess in 2007 and an FAI Cup win in 2005.
“He has also managed Ireland's U-19 teams.
“Before his move to the dugout Paul was a highly decorated and respected player having played for clubs including Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians, Shelbourne, Derry City, and Dundalk in the LOI and Portadown in the Irish League.
“Paul's appointment as ATAFC's manager was confirmed following a meeting between the parties late on Tuesday evening, August 17th last.
“Everyone associated with the club wishes him the best of luck!.”
Doolin succeeds Adrian Carberry after his exit from the First Division club was confirmed yesterday.
Athlone were riding high in the First Division after securing 13 points from a possible 15 in their opening five games.
But after 19 league matches - and investment in the squad - they now sit sixth in the table on 22 points.
