Manchester City could already have their Sergio Aguero replacement, according to Paul Dickov.
Aguero might be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract expires, but his expertly-taken strike against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon sent a timely reminder that his powers in front of goal are yet to diminish.
Included in the Blues' starting XI at Selhurst Park, the 32-year-old seized his opportunity when opening the scoring with an outstanding goal, volleying into the roof of the net past a helpless Vicente Guaita.
After a remarkable 10-year period in Manchester, Aguero, City's all-time top goalscorer, will leave behind an unrivalled legacy and it will be almost impossible for the club to fill the void his departure will cause in the summer transfer market.
City have been linked with moves for Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, and both players would command substantial transfer fees, but former Blues player Dickov believes Aguero's replacement could actually already be right under Pep Guardiola's nose.
“We talked before the game about Man City being relentless,” Dickov said to BBC Radio 5 Live. "They didn’t let Crystal Palace off the hook straight from the kick-off and what a finish that is from Ferran Torres.
“Behind the scenes, they’re really pleased by how he is doing. He wants to learn, he’s always asking questions and today he’s been the best player on the pitch. They’ve got him earmarked as a future number nine at this club. The world is at his feet.”
Torres' goal against Palace to double City's lead was the Spaniard's 10th of the season from just 32 appearances in all competitions - considering he's still just 21-years-old, that's an excellent return.
