Riddle me this, Batman.
There Will Be Blood star Paul Dano has been cast as the villainous rogue The Riddler in The Batman.
In a statement from Warner Bros Studios (via The Hollywood Reporter ), it was confirmed that Dano would play the character, but with the alter-ego of Edward Nashton and not the character's traditional name of Edward Nygma from DC Comics.
The news comes after it was revealed that Jonah Hill would not be taking on the role.
Other actors to previously play the role include Jim Carrey in the Joel Schumacher film Batman Forever.
Dano's Riddler will face-off with Batman , played by The Lighthouse star Robert Pattinson.
Joining them in the film are Big Little Lies star Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle and Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon.
Director Matt Reeves previously said of the plot and style of his new version of the Dark Knight.
"It's very much a point-of-view-driven, noir Batman tale," he told The Hollywood Reporter .
"It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional.
"It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films."
It will not be the next DC Comics film in cinemas, however, as next year will see the release of Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) and Wonder Woman 1984.

The Batman is released in cinemas on June 25, 2021.
