NEW YORK _ Henrik Lundqvist being an integral part of Ranger victories is expected. The same can't be said for Paul Carey.
The combined contributions of those two players, though, were immense in the Rangers' 4-1 win over Anaheim Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, Lundqvist making a bevy of crucial saves over the first two periods while Carey scored twice for his first career multi-goal game.
Both of Carey's goals were assisted by David Desharnais, who dropped to the fourth line upon Mika Zibanejad's return from a nine-game concussion absence but remained in the lineup with Boo Nieves coming out, a decision by Alain Vigneault that paid off.
Lundqvist made 31 saves over the first two periods but had his shutout bid ended with 5:17 left in the game on Ondrej Kase's goal.
Nearly two minutes later, Michael Grabner scored his seventh goal in the last nine games and his team-best 17th goal of the season, a goal awarded after a video review showed the puck crossed the goal line before Rickard Rickell swatted it away.
Kevin Hayes scored 38 seconds into the second to put the Rangers up 2-0.
