Paul Arriola twist as Swansea City loan possible before transfer deadline

Swansea City could yet swoop for Paul Arriola in the final stages of transfer deadline day.

The Swans have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old during the course of the winter window.

Chief executive Julian Winter recently admitted that Arriola featured on the club's wish list, although he revealed there had been no agreement made between Swansea and DC United regarding the player's future.

Sources played down the chance of a move for Arriola on Monday morning, although, given the Swans' ties to DC United, a move was never completely off the table.

And with Steve Cooper determined to bolster his squad before the 11pm deadline, a move for Arriola may well be back on the cards as pursuits of other targets have fallen by the wayside.

Swansea are expected to complete the signing of Morgan Whittaker from Derby County later today while Arriola - who scored twice in the United States' 7-0 triumph over Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday night - could become the club's fifth signing of the window should a move materialise.

It's understood Swansea's ownership group are keen to see the versatile 25-year-old test himself in Europe while he could also provide cover for Connor Roberts at right-back.

Swansea have already signed Ben Hamer, Jordan Morris and Conor Hourihane this month.
