Holly and Phil in stitches after James Martin splits his trousers on This Morning

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were left in stitches after chef James Martin explained his trousers had split during the show.

He had been showcasing his collection of favourite butters, and had shown viewers how they can easily make their own at home.

Schofield had joked that the chef had "wheels on the bottom of his feet" to move him around after cooking with lots of butter.

James Martin responded "I've just split my trousers, I know that, bending down here".

Schofield and Willoughby laughed before Schofield realised he was being serious and had split his trousers when picking items up from the floor.

"Oh you have!" he remarked.

Holly described the incident as "All in the name of research" as the pair laughed at the TV chef.

"I need to stop eating" James Martin joked, before walking away.

One viewer was quick to head to twitter to discuss the incident.

"Did James Martin seriously split his trousers?!" said @MissLionHeart

Chef James Martin had cooked a buttery chicken Milanese earlier in the show, which impressed the presenters. He also made fudge, which he then turned into a chocolate fudge cake, which he described as "loaded with a bit of fudge on top".

James Martin explained how instead of offering guests a cheeseboard, he creates a "butter board" from all of his favourite butters.

Holly and Phil tried many of his favourite butters, and were both impressed with how easily you can make butter in your own kitchen, using milk and cream.

He explained that the recipe led to no leftovers, as after draining the butter, you would be left with buttermilk.
