Patty Beef Burger honours our homegrown hero Patty Mills

It's gutsy, it's got punch and it's Canberra-made - meet the Patty Beef burger, a tasty homage to the Boomers captain and former Marist College school boy Patty Mills.

Obviously a play on a beef patty, the Patty Beef is the brainchild of The Hungry Brown Cow owner and basketball fan Will Cowie, who wanted to honour Mills who led the Boomers so gallantly to a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, the Australian men's team's first medal at an Olympics.

The burger is still available during lockdown, as a takeaway from the Hungry Brown Cow at the Holt shops.

"I have a basketball background. Played when I was younger and did a lot of coaching, so it's my sport," Will said.

"I was definitely invested in the Olympics and definitely followed the Boomers' journey of trying to get a medal. The reaction of Andrew Gaze when was interviewed live on TV and was literally in tears, it just meant a lot to a lot of people.

"I thought, 'I've got this little burger bar, I've got this little avenue to celebrate this moment in Boomers' basketball history'.

"And Patty Mills contributed 42 points in a huge game and he has such a huge Canberra connection."

The Patty Beef is "pretty loaded".

"It's got the beef patty, it's got egg and bacon, the American cheddar, tomato, onion, maple aioli, barbecue sauce," he said.

"It just celebrates everything great in a burger and celebrates everything great in what the Boomers did."

The burger is only available this week.

"I actually had a guy come in this morning and he was saying, 'Listen man, that Patty Beef I had yesterday was the best burger I've ever had and I was literally going to come in and order another one, just back-to-back but my wife said, 'I'm eating too many burgers so I can't'.

"So the reaction is great and it's just my little way of celebrating their achievement."

It's been a good week for Mills.

The inspirational guard, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Wednesday, also this week signed with the Brooklyn Nets in an NBA deal reportedly worth $12 million.

Could buy one or two burgers with that.
