Patti Smith has marked the approaching end of the cartoon series Aqua Teen Hunger Force with a special song, paying tribute to the show.
In her heartfelt ballad Aqua Teen Dream, posted online, Smith sings plaintively: “I’d never dreamed I’d be in Aqua Teen / 13 seasons, what did it mean?” “A Master Shake, Meatwad, a floating head / And now you’re dead and it’s the end of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.”
The series, aimed at adults, has run on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim channel since September 2001. It’s 11th and final season – not its 13th – ends on 23 August. It centres on three characters: Master Shake, a milkshake who is a compulsive liar, Frylock, a box of French fries, and Meatwad, a stupid ball of ground meat. The current series is being broadcast under the name Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forever.
