Pattaya taxi driver returns wallet with cash to Chinese tourist

CHON BURI: A Chinese tourist is full of praise for a female taxi driver who returned a wallet and two passports he left in the taxi early on Sunday.

Boonthanom Phangnil, 42, told Pattaya police that at about 1am she took a foreign tourist from the Sugar Hut Hotel to the Central Festival on Pattaya Beach.

After the passenger got out, Ms Boonthanom stopped to clean up the vehicle and found a wallet and two passports on the back seat. She drove back to the hotel, but the owner was not there. She decided to handed them over to the police.

The police examined the wallet and found some Chinese and Thai banknotes - 741 Chinese yuan and 3,207 Thai baht - in it. The passports identified the tourist as Yang Rongzong, 24, a Chinese national.

After being contacted by the police, the Chinese tourist picked up his belongings from the police station.

He was full of praise for Ms Boonthanom and gave her 5,000 baht as a token of his appreciation.
