Patryk Klimala stakes Celtic starter claim as striker ready to fill Odsonne Edouard void in Rangers clash

Celtic striker Patryk Klimala played 83 minutes and bagged an assist for Poland's Under-21s as he could be drafted in to face Rangers.

Manager Neil Lennon has an attacking headache on his hands ahead of the first derby of the season, with coronavirus and injuries biting hard.

Star man Odsonne Edouard won't return to Scotland until Friday after testing positive for the virus while on international duty with the French Under-21 side.

Albian Ajeti is struggling with injury while Leigh Griffiths has played just 14 minutes of Premiership football so far this season.

That could mean that Klimala is given the nod against Rangers on Saturday and the youngster did his chances no harm while playing for his country.

The 22-year-old started for Poland's youth side against Bulgaria and was given 83 minutes in the 1-1 draw.

Klimala also grabbed himself an assist when his shot cannoned off the crossbar and fell kindly for his former Jagiellonia Bialystok team-mate Bartosz Bida.

The Pole has three goals in 11 Celtic appearances this season but has largely been used from the bench since moving to Scotland.
